Sad as I was to leave Margaret, Patty and the Cape, it was time.
I had places to be, babies to shower. In Highlands, NC.
My friends Lee Knight and Dana are expecting a little boy in December and the time for gift-giving, belly rubbing and hanging out with some of my very best friends from North Carolina had arrived.
Lee Knight's mother has a house and a cabin in Highlands and a big group of us try to gather at least once a year.
This year, Baby Miller was the center of attention (and not some drunken friend of mine). Which may or may not at one time have been me.
Apes couldn't join me, so I went solo and told her I'd do my best not to stray.
I was a little offended she didn't look at all concerned.
Lee Knight put me and my best friends Jenni and Toni in the cabin. We had it all to ourselves and it felt like camp. Only without the tents, bugs, heat, bad food and no showers.
Lee Knight and Dana greeted us in the morning and Jenni immediately snagged Lee Knight for a walk. I think she wanted to know how babies were made and felt uncomfortable asking in front of the group.
Toni and Jenni - two of the best friends a girl could ask for.
We had some time to kill before the 6pm shower, so we headed into downtown Highlands. One street. But the cutest damn street you've ever seen. Ice cream at Sweet Treats was a must. (I didn't realize it at the time, but Apes had been messing with our camera settings...it explains the pink hair).
Ice cream won't make you fat if you go immediately and get a pedicure. I read that somewhere.
Purdy toes. Betcha can't guess whose are whose!
I snapped this pic the SECOND Toni realized she didn't have the car keys and we'd walked all over town. I chose not to take a picture of Jenni's face. Please note the POURING rain.
This is what we looked like after we located the keys back at Sweet Treats. It was actually really fun, splashing in puddles and sliding all over the place.
Such stressful times called for a change of clothes, beer and Swisher Sweets cigars. Mom, I didn't inhale. I swear.

We straightened up the cabin, took showers (not together, not this time), and made ourselves presentable.
We headed over to Lee Knight's mom's house to meet up with everyone. I made Toni and Jenni pose in the entry way. They hate me and my camera.
That there in the black shirt and goofy face is Dana, mommy #2. She was DETERMINED not to allow me to get a shot of her without making a face. And she KNOWS I have a blog. Usually I have so much power when people know that. She could care less. Makes her dangerous.

Toni was much easier to work with. She looked so purdy sitting in between these plants.
Lee Knight's mom has a rabbit named Tango. Tango is the most laid back bunny EVER. He will let you hold him however you want and didn't fight me when I put him in a head lock.

It was time to head to Jean Ann's house for the shower. It was just up the hill (mountain). So of course we walked. Every house we were in was stunning. Lee Knight gave us a quick tour:

I asked Jean Ann if I could move in and she said "Sure!" I don't think she takes me seriously. I'll be sure to take a picture of her face when I show up with U-Haul, April and 3 dogs.
Didn't take us long to make ourselves at home.
Jenni's thought bubble: "Keep your manners, Jenni. You can do it. Just try." (She's going to call me as soon as she reads this, but I'm not within tackling distance, so I feel safe).
Eleni and me. We threw so many cherry seeds over that railing that I was afraid someone might trip and kill themselves.
This is what seven years looks like.
Gotcha Dana!
Reason enough to get knocked up. Presents. A lot of them.
No, Dana, Miller does not sleep in the bag. You just put stuff in it. Not the baby. No. No. No. She'll get it. Until she does, Lee Knight will watch her. Carefully.
After the shower, everyone was beat and headed straight to bed. Even us.
When I woke up the next morning I sat in my comfy bed and watched a slide show on my camera. The past two weeks zoomed by...Cape pictures...Highlands pictures...
I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends and family. Thank you all for being part of my life and for allowing me to share our adventures.
Not that I asked.
But thanks anyway!

FUN! What a cute bunny! Miss Scarlett is only that laid back when there are Cheerios to be had...(or when it's 108 in the desert and she is desperate for a trip inside)
Yay for fun times and fun friends huh...
miss scarlett: that bunny had me wrapped around his little tail immediately. I was completely anti-social for the first half hour we were at LK's mom's house.
Glad you hear you kids are enjoying the Keys!
Ever read those local papers where they recap the local events like weddings and baby showers? They always end them with...
"A Good Time Was Had By All."
:}
feisty: think if I end my post that way, people will hire me to cover their events? no? really? why not?
Great photos - certainly looks like a fun time with your friends. And I agree with Miss Scarlett - that rabbit is the biz. I had one similar - called Eric - and I used to stick him in my robe pocket and walk round the house doing my chores. He was great company - infinitely more intelligent than the ex...
That's really nice !
=) Sounds like you had a great time. It's seeing the long term couples like you guys that gives a girl hope.
